Regular Schedule
Edward is conducting a Morning Practice Zoom sitting Sunday through Thursday each week, 7:00 am – 8:15 am (Pacific). A note from Edward:
This is the latest incarnation of the Morning Practice that has been on-going since July of 2022, a pretty consistent group of six to twelve people, though a few more for lecture on Sunday — now and again a new face.
As you know with Zoom, participants may appear or be a name on the screen, and you may come and go as you wish. If you want to be in contact, you may put your email into the Chat.
Warm wishes. You could click a time or two, and see if it’s your cup of tea.

Upcoming Events — 2026
April 19
May 17
Dark times are the occasion for soulmaking. You are invited to join a half-day of soulmaking practice at Nourish Heart Zen Temple, in Fairfax, California. Implicitly our sitting is a prayer for the benefit of the world and for all beings. It is opening our intuition to give and receive love, support and guidance with the way the universe is going.
Sittings are from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and include sitting periods (cushion or chair), chi gong, outdoor walking, instruction, lecture, and Q & A. Email Edward to sign up; a $20 deposit to hold your place would be appreciated. (Pay via PayPal to edespe@mindspring.com or via Venmo to Edward-Brown-115 (6184 if needed). Or you may write a check to the Peaceful Sea Sangha. These funds will be considered donations to PSS.
May 2, 9, 16, 23 (four Saturdays)
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Pacific Time, Online (hosted by San Francisco Zen Center).
Food is a mystery, source, and sustenance. Zen Master Tenkei said, “See with your eyes, smell with your nose, taste with your tongue … nothing in the universe is hidden. What else would you have me say?”
Join Edward for an online class to study Dogen’s Tenzokyokun (Instructions to the Head Cook). More information and registration available here.
June 9 – June 14
Zen and Cooking, Scheibbs, Austria
Simple food, sincere practice
“When you cook, you’re not just working with food; you’re working with yourself, you’re working with other people.”
This was the reminder from Zen Master Suzuki Roshi that kitchen work is also a kind of self-reflection and polishing of the self by dedicating ourselves to the path.
Each day we will prepare our own lunch. We will cook simple, tasty dishes, including breads, soups, salads, grains, and desserts, with ample opportunity for tasting and conversation. Alongside and during our work in the kitchen, we will practice meditation, using Zen Master Dogen’s “Instructions for the Cook” as a guide for our exploration: “Let things come and abide in the heart; let the heart turn and abide in things.” Silence will be observed at designated times. May all beings be nourished. The course language is English.

June 16 – June 24

The meaning of sesshin is to “gather and purify the mind.” To follow this ancient path, participants commit to setting aside cell phones, maintaining silence, and following the schedule.
Together let’s enter the Gateless Gate.
